Description: Original oil painting on canvas by American artist Luis Eades (1923-2014) , a mid century figurative abstract painter. This painting is signed and dated '61 by the artist at bottom left and it is in its original modernist period walnut frame, probably by Kulicke or FAR. The painting's reverse bears a second signature, title and date, as well as a Janet Nessler Gallery label, Nessler was a prestigious Madison Avenue dealer and had an Eades a one-man show in November of 1961. The painting is titled, "Red Motorcycle", it is an oil on canvas and measures 14 x 18 inches, with frame 18 1/4 x 22 1/4 inches. Excellent original condition. Judging by photos of Eades, there is a strong possibility that this is an artist's self portrait. Luis Eades (1923-2014) was an American figurative abstract painter. Born in Madrid, Spain to Spanish mother and British father, Eades spent his educational life in London, England, completing his Bachelor's degrees related to art at Bath Art School and Slade School of Art. During World War II he served in the British Army in the Asian theater. After the war, he furthered his education at the Instituto Politecnico Nacional in Mexico and with muralists Diego Rivera and Jose Clemente Orozco. In 1950, he studied at the University of Kentucky, completing his Art degree in 1952. He taught at the University of Texas from 1952 - 1961. He ended his educational career as a professor of arts at the University of Colorado, teaching there from 1961 - 1986. During the late 1950s and early 1960s exhibited regularly at New York galleries and in the Museum of Modern Art.
