Description: Central Africa, Kenya, Turkana, circa early 20th century. A fascinating and rare example of a hand-carved wooden war club created by the Turkana people. It is comprised of indigenous wood and boasts a minimal yet effective design intended to deliver powerful blows in combat. The exposed wood knots is a unique feature to this club as it lends a distinguished and fierce character. Although the intended function was to serve as weapon of war, I find it quite beautiful and elegant. The overall dimensions are approximately 40 1/2"L x 7"D x 1"W. The provenance was that it was acquired from a U.S. government source and was observed by appraisers prior to entering my collection.
