Description: 1861 USA FLAG - 34 STARS - CIVIL WAR - HAND-SEWN - SIGNED HB for HORSTMANN BROS, PHILADELPHIA - This fine old survivor was found in Pennsylvania, where it was originally made. The flag was ordered by the Quartermaster for the Union Army - it either served as a ceremonial flag or a battlefield flag. The damage to the far right side of the flag may be from wind shear or it may be from incoming fire - one may never know. The size is approximately 3 1/2 ft x 5". Most of the loss is on the right side, a few small holes otherwise but it is unquestionably authentic. Hand cut and hand sewn stars, fairly thin material, hand stitched initials HB for Horstmann Bros in the upper left corner of the star field. - the flag is pictured pinned to a cardboard backing, not good - immediately after taking pictures I removed the pins and folded the flag very carefully - a true relic from an historic era in our history - an opportunity to own, display properly, preserve and enjoy a 163 year old American flag that was there when it happened - buyer pays 35.00 safe bubble packing, tracking and insurance in USA
