Tiffany style M1850 Staff & Field Non-Regulation A very impressive Staff & Field officer's sword with a large half basket consisting of a lined background and raised vine patterns all with heavy gilt. The pommel and backstrap are also decorated with the vine motif. The grip is coarse sharkskin with dragoon twist copper wire and two flanking wires. The heavy blade has a single large fuller, beautiful etching and gold washed background. It is not maker marked. It has a Proved disk inset in the ricasso. The etching is high quality with scrolls, arms and armor with a Federal Shield, a sunburst with a script U.S. beneath a Liberty Cap. The reverse is equally as well done with a Federal Eagle sitting on a Federal Shield with the liberty cap above. The scabbard is sharkskin with high relief mounts with flags, geometrics and foliate decoration.
