It was originally meant as a butter dish, but could also be used for cheese or other delicacies. Measures approx. 5 1/2 inches tall with lid on. Plate is approx. 7 inches across. Beautiful inverted thistle design impressed all around both parts of the piece. Excellent used condition, no nicks, chips, cracks, or crazing. Glass is clear.
