Description: Three letters in original envelopes in response to queries by Mr. Force about accommodation in the Adirondacks in 1916. The first letter from an establishment in Maine says they have no tennis courts and apparently Force tries another. The second and third letters are from the Adirondacks Interbrook Lodge and not only do they have tennis courts, but “My boarders are all gentiles”. According to the 1987 Adirondack Daily Enterprise, “Although anti-Semitism never ran rampant in Adirondack history several of the early hotels were guilty of banning Jewish people from their establishments. Certain public houses slipped coyly couched phrases in their advertisements with such suggestive wording as "socially undesirable" or "racial objection" while others openly stated "Jewish persons need not apply."
