Description: Antique 1840s Biedermeier Austrian Gilt 800 Silver & Enamel Brooch & Earring Set This stunning set was hand made from gilt silver around the 1840s in Austria and features a masterfully crafted blue and white enamel floral shapes mounted on top of an ornate oval gilt silver leaf design frame. The pieces are in overall good antique condition with minor enamel and gilding loss. One of the earring pins has broken off and needs to be welded back on which is quite a simple repair. This kind of set with a brooch and a pair of earrings was called a "Demi Parure" (French for "Half Set") as opposed to a "Parure" ("Set") which would be a full suite of jewelry with matching necklace, bracelet, earrings and brooch (and sometimes additional items such as a diadem). The beautiful brooch measures 1 5/8" long x 1 1/8" wide and the earrings are 7/8" long x 9/16" wide. Total weight is 10.7 grams. The pieces are stamped "800" for a common European silver standard of 80% silver and carry Austrian hallmarks. Very beautiful antique pieces!
