Antique 1890 Edme Samson Porcelain Ordinary Toby Jug W/ Foaming Flagon 2 Pint

Description: A large, two pint capacity, enamelled porcelain ordinary type Toby jug by the French artist Edme Samson of Paris, in France, dating from the late 19th century circa 1890. This gilded white porcelain Toby jug or pitcher is decorated with a burgundy enamel Georgian frock coat, white waistcoat, white cravat, yellow knee length breeches and brown stockings with black shoes and a black tricorn hat covering part of his long grey hair. He is holding a foaming mug of ale on his left knee, and his right hand is about to wrap around it. His roundish jovial face is well modelled with a large bulbous nose and wide toothy grin with a black spot to his left cheek. He is sat down on a tall scrolling chair visible at the back, which has a scroll topped handle. He is similar in shape and design to the earlier Yorkshire ordinary type Toby jugs other than the body material. The jug or pitcher stands 10 1/4 inches (26 cm) high and is about 6 3/4 inches (17 cm) deep and 5 inches ( 13 cm) wide. It weighs 1.6 kg unpacked and is in excellent condition with no breaks or cracks of any kind . The colours are still crisp and vibrant and the artists stamp on the bottom of the jug is also very clear and defined.
