Description: A Beautiful and important Late 18th century Moonlight Landscape Believed to be byJohn Crome (1768-1821)Crome was one of the founders of the Norwich school of painting. His works are held in many museums around the world. He learned from eminent painters such as William Beechy (1753-1839) and John Opie (1761-1807), two greats of British painting in their own right.It is faintly signed in the lower left, partially hidden by later "restoration". It is painted on an oak panel and has light restoration throughout.There is an old frame makers label on the revers for "S.T. Townshend, 18 Charing Cross, Norwich". Townshend was located at this address from 1854-1896. I do believe that this Label is from another frame, as the current one is Late 18th Century and does not fit the painting perfectly in size.
