Description: Antique Trolley Collectible TROLLEY FARE REGISTER Antique c1900's Vintage Large Metered Display Wood Wall Mount Bell Rings/Number Advances ~11" Diameter ~30 Lbs Offered for sale is a Antique 1900's "PTC" which I believe is "Philadelphia Transit Company" - a Trolley Fare Counter Register. Unknown date of manufacture. The Philadelphia Transportation Company ( PTC) was the main public transit operator in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Hard to find item for the Trolley Lover or man cave. The counter is in very good working condition. The internal locking device works well as designed. The counter appears to be all original. While no maker marks are noted, I am quite sure it was manufactured by the International Register Co. of Chicago. The lettering on the face and counter register system look great as does the original patina as well. The face rim is brass and most of the rest of the counter is steel and cast iron. The unpainted hanger is cast iron, which was screwed to the trolley wall and the counter could be removed easily by the Motorman. This model has a wooden Back board for wall mount (better hit a stud for this one). A cord hangs down from the register, when a passenger got on and paid their fare, the motorman pulled the rope to count and record the transaction on the register. The knob on the side changes the "IN/OUT", probably for in or out of service. The PTC was incorporated in 1902. It began service to the affluent and fashionable suburb of West Philadelphia within the next year or so. It was a wonderful mode of transportation helping the citizens of Philadelphia move easily to downtown Philly and all that it had to offer.
