Description: We offer for your consideration this antique New York Standard Watch Co. pocket watch. This pocket watch is Operational This is a little pocket watch is a 3s in a full hunter case. Unfortunately there is not a lot of information out there about NYSWC, we do know the company was founded around the mid 1880s and in 1899 was purchased by the Keystone watch case company. The company fell victim to the failed economy of the great depression and ceased operations in 1929. We believe this watch to have been manufactured around 1905/09 Because NYSWC was purchased by the Keystone watch case company, we believe the case is a Keystone "Premier" watch case. This case is stamped "Premier", "GUARANTEED" "FIVE YEARS"and carries the serial number "5321058" The case is a very attractive one, but judging by the years of guarantee, not one of the more high-end cases produced by Keystone. But fortunately this little case has held up very nicely for it's estimated 112 years. The covers all snap close snuggly, and the front cover latch and spring assembly open crisply. The covers front and back are almost identical in design. They have beaded edges with a border of scroll works, and the shoulders below the crown and bow have beautiful segments of fern patterned foliage. Both covers have badge in the center, with ornate leaf borders. On the back the badge has a small engraving of High peaked roof house. The case edge has a narrow coin groove edge.Surprisingly there are no traces of brassing on the exterior of the case. But there is some tarnishing on the interior front cover. (See Picture) The dial is white porcelain enamel with a flush seconds dial. The dial is branded "Excelsior" with the NYSWC logo below, and below that U.S.A.There are fine black roman numerals marking the 12 hours. The outside dial is a borderless track of small black ticks with heavier ticks at the five minute intervals, and triangular ticks at 3,6,9 & 12.The small seconds dial is marked with arabic numerals at 190 second intervals. The hands are blued steel fine whip style. The crystal is in a press set bezel and is in excellent condition. There is a hairline crack that runs diagonally from the 57 minute tick mark down to the 23/24 minute tick mark. There is also a crescent shaped hairline crack at the dial edge between the 1 minute tick and the 8 minute tick mark. (see picture) This pocket watch defies the claims that it was one of the New York Standard Watch Co. lower quality pocket watches. At even the most modest estimate this watch is is between 92 and 110 years old and it still runs.
