This necklace comes with a Valuation for Traditional Retail Insurance Replacement of $2,750 { I am selling well below this}. This valuation has been done by a Member of the National Council of Jewellery Valuers and a Member of the Gemmological Association of Australia, it is NOT a shop valuation for an item they have sold. The colour of the gemstones is really beautiful - they are garnet topped doublets - information in regard to doublets at end of description. Reading from the valuation " Antique gold & red gemstone set necklace, stamped {on the clasp} "9CT" .... The pendant section consists of 1 claw set oval cut garnet topped doublet to the centre with 3 "drops" the central and longest drop is claw set with 2 oval cut garnet topped doublet with each drop to the side is claw set with 1 oval cut garnet topped doublet to the yellow gold oval link chain and a barrel design clasp. All of the garnets are a of a pinkish - red colour. " ...." Total length approximately 43cm Total weight 6.75 grams. This will come in a new modern box , SIMILAR BUT NOT THE SAME as pictured and the valuation comes with the necklace and box. The bottom garnet has one claw missing but this is still held very firmly by the remaining 9 claws, in very good antique condition. GARNET TOPPED DOUBLETS: A garnet and glass doublet uses a top portion of natural garnet fused to glass to imitate a gem, using the harder garnet on the top makes the stones more durable { glass chips and scratches easily}. Garnet and glass doublets were used a lot in Victoria mid to late 1800's jewellery, in this case to imitate ruby. A lot of very good jewellery uses these as is referenced here by the setting in gold.
