Description: Antique biedermeier walnut Viennese tea caddy box 19th centuryThis is a rare little box. Veneered with deeply grained thick (2-3 mm) walnut veneer with a chamfered lid which has an inlay of maple of a cruciform floral motif on a hardwood (maple) carcass. Revived french polish finish with a protective wax coating. Original iron hinges,lock and iron escutcheon with a floral knob above it. No key. A contemporary steel engraving of a market scene on inside lid. Made in Austria, possibly in Vienna around 1840. Measures 14 x 14 x 12 cmCondition report: In excellent antique original condition. Superb patina throughout. Lock is not working. Lid closes securely.
