Antique Bohemian Cup & Saucer, Extra Large, Vienna Style

Description: CONDITION: Excellent, without defects of any kind. This porcelain cup and saucer was produced in Giesshubel Bohemia, now Struzna, Czech Republic, by Josef Riedl around 1890. The set has a blue underglaze bee hive mark. The saucer has a diameter of 6 inches and is 1 1/2 inches deep. The cup is 3 1/4 inches tall with a diameter of 2 3/4 inches. The cup has an artist’s signature. The cup is titled, “ Muses” in German. The front of the cup has a large panel containing a hand painted scene. There are two beautiful women, of ancient Greece, one depicting literature and the other music. The rest of the cup and the border on the saucer is cobalt blue. These parts are elaborately decorated in Royal Vienna style, with raised enamel beading and intricate hand gilding. There are little gilded vignettes containing chickens, a farm house, rabbits, exotic birds and other creatures.
