Description: C1880 Tuck Chang Chinese Export Solid Silver Pierced Openwork Scrolling Foliate and Flower (sunflower/lotus possibly) detail Bowl. Standing on four long legs In very good pre-loved and used antique condition with no dents, splits or tears. There are four indentations inside the bowl exactly where the legs are. The bowl stands straight, so I’m inclined to think this was in the making. Measurements approximately: Height: 7.5cm (3”) Top: 13cm x 10cm (5” x 4”) Weight: 106.53g About Tuck Chang (1870-1920): Active in the late 19th Century, Tuck Chang is undoubtedly the most popular retail silversmith of Shanghai, thus often referred to as the ‘Wang Hing of Shanghai’. Like Wang Hing, the firm also traded in jade and jewellery. Tuck Chang relied on several artisans to keep up with the demand of silver trophies, souvenirs, tea sets and high quality gift items required by the international resident community of Shanghai. Despite the large number of items produced, the company managed to maintain very high quality standards and innovative designs, aware of the most recent western trends. He created a style other than that of Canton and Hong Kong, combining Chinese traditional motifs and western taste, fusing the Victorian and the Chinese style and later embracing and reinterpreting the Art Deco models. I have given it a quick wipe over, but as with all my items I don't over clean or polish. There may be the odd age related wear/mark commensurate with age, anything of note is listed above.
