Description: Antique Copeland Jasperware Tall Pitcher with Hunting Scene Marked "Copland IQ" For Your Art Pottery or Your Old Jasperware Pottery Collection - CoplandPitcher2 Details Description: A beautiful Blue and off-white jasperware Copeland, later known as Spode, tall and substantial pitcher with a spout and applied handle. The pitcher is marked "COPLAND IQ" with impressed lettering on the base. It is ~6 3/4" high and has a round flat and footed base which rises with inwards slanted straight sides to a plain rim equipped with a spout. The circumference of the pitcher is decorated with a very elaborate hunting scene showing horses, men, dogs running and dogs holding down what we believe is a fox. There is a fence, trees, and grass all in cream colored raised design on a dark blue background. We believe the piece to be from the mid to late 1800s judging by the mark. This is a very nice piece that is over 100 years and in very good condition. A very nice piece to add to your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: Uncertain, but the marking suggest mid 19th century. Origin: Staffordshire, England Size: The piece measures ~4 1/2" diameter at the base, ~3 5/8" diameter on top, is ~6" at its widest including the handle and spout, and is ~6 3/4" high. The piece weighs slightly over one pound and 11 ounces. Maker: W. T. Copeland Pottery Marks: Impressed on the base the words "COPELAND IQ" in two separate impressed stamps into the base. Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Beautiful art pottery old pitcher of beautiful design and good color. It would make a great addition to your collection of Jasperware pottery. Condition: The piece is in excellent condition with no breaks, crack, hairlines or repairs. The piece is clean with the design being well preserved, crisp and beautiful. The piece has a minor blemishes here and there which can be seen in the photos. It also has residue of blue coloring along the foot of the base. Finally, there is a small dimple on top of the rim near the spout (see 5th photo) which we believe is an artifact of the manufacturing and not a chip. Be that as it may, these issues are all minor and the piece is very nice given its age and utilitarian purpose. A beautiful piece to add to your collection.
