Description: This is a wonderful set of THREE antique French transferware faience plates in black and white that date to the 19th century. They were made by the French company Creil et Montereau (also written as Creil-Montereau) Each plate measures 7 1/2" in diameter and has a black and white floral border with a sentimental scene described in French. 1) Features a scene of a child chatting with a soldier. The inscription reads "Les enfants precoces" at the top and "No. 212 Cesar penses-tu que la guerre puisse durer long-temps? C'est selon si on ne signe pas la paix!" at the bottom. 2) Features a scene of an elderly woman reverently touching the portrait of a man. The inscription reads "N. 11 La bonne vieille." 3) Features a scene of a child and father stargazing. The inscription reads "No. 1 Les etoiles qui filent". The plate measures 7 1/2" in diameter. Moderate age-related staining across the surface of the plate and four small chips on the lower left border (see photos for detail).
