Description: This antique Desk Set from Japan is a stunning piece of history. The set includes a black lacquer finish desk, a matching desk chair and an unusual corner chair. The top section has four drawers and two compartments for papers along with a "secret" compartment which can be locked (original key is missing, however a dummy key can be substituted). The bottom section has Cabriole legs with two drawers and an apron all heavily and beautifully carved. The Desk Chair is heavily and beautifully carved in the same motifs as the Desk and is circular in style. There are some signs of wear denoting a chair that was used daily and shows some signs of its use and age. The Corner Chair is indeed and unusual piece. It is also heavily and beautifully carved and in excellent condition except for a clean break in the back of the chair. It is not apparent to the eye and could easily be repaired by a wood worker. The Desk Set is in exceptional condition considering residential wear and tear and consistent with its age, which is thought to be approximately 120 years old. This beautiful Japanese Desk Set is located in Central New Jersey, easily reached by major highways Rts. 287, 78, 202/206 and Garden State Parkway, (if buyer choses to pick up personally).
