Description: Régiment Colonel Général Cavalerie • Colonel's Standard. This was one of the three "staff" regiments, named for the high officers of the cavalry arm. Régiment Colonel Général was unique in having a white colonel's standard. Note: all images of cavalry standards depict the obverse (right) and reverse of the standard, even if both sides were identical. HistoricalColonels and camp mastersThe regiment originated from a Saxe-Weimar regiment which had passed into the pay of France in 1635; the Maison de Turenne became its owner in 1651. When the king created in 1657 the charge of Colonel General of cavalry he gave it to the Viscount of Turenne one of his most prestigious marshals. This prestigious and remunerative charge will remain for nearly a century in this house before moving to the house of Béthune Sully in 1759.
