Description: Someone paid a small fortune to professionally frame this pair of antique aquatint prints which I believe are original and date to the mid-19th Century!! The top one is of "Turquoise"(1825–1846) a British Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare who won the classic Oak Stakes at Epsom Downs Racecourse in 1828!! In a racing career which lasted from April 1828 until April 1830 she ran eighteen times, winning eleven races and finishing second on five occasions. The original painting was by artist Richard Barrett Davis (1782-1854), and the engraving was created by John Scott!! The lower portrait is of "Highflyer" (1774 – 1793) an undefeated Thoroughbred racehorse and a very successful sire of the 18th century!! The original painting was done by Benjamin Marshall (1768-1835) famous for his sporting and animal paintings, and the engraving was also created by John Scott!! The prints are approx. 6 5/8" X 5 3/8" within the burgundy velvet double matting and they are in MINT condition, as is the matting!! The wooden frame is solid with extremely minor wear!! Approx. 20.25" X 15.5" overall, this piece is ready to display as is!! NOTE: Quoted shipping charges are based on the farthest zone from me, so if you live in closer proximity to Greensboro, NC, the cost will go down!! I refund overcharges less a small packing & handling fee, so even if you pay the quoted charge you will not be overcharged!! BUT PLEASE WAIT FOR INVOICING to maximize your potential refund as eBay now charges a final value fee on the shipping too!!
