Description: A brilliant 18k gold layer on .800/1000 pure silver, "vermeil", this sewing set looks like the pricey solid 18k sets but at a fraction of the cost. Remarkably nice set, the Napoléon III cabinetry maker's box with beautiful wood and inlays and stringing in contrasting wood is a little work of art, itself. Elegantly preserved both inside and out, the interior's silk velvet and silk upper lining remain in stunning form for display open. Full measurements noted on the photos. NOTE: the embroidery panels are not included, are just to add ambiance and color. Same with items in our group images at the end of photos. Context and ambiance are always important to us! Very good to excellent in all aspects, age and type considered. The set is in .800/1000 fine French silver with 18k gold layer (Vermeil), and all pieces are without damage or dent. Single notable flaw is that the original bodkin (ribbon-threading needle) is no longer with the set. This is very common in these old sets. Sometimes one can locate/buy a replacement, however. The wood case is also top quality and in fine condition, hinge and clasp also working very well. A really beautiful antique set!
