Direct from France, a substantial 19th century carved French pier/mantel mirror, over 6.5 ft. tall! Stunning hand carved details, probably commissioned for an aristocrat’s castle, circa 1880, and carved in the Black Forest region of Europe, where France, Germany and Switzerland meet. The huge carved crown has a massive carved center medallion shield amidst thick, open carved scrolls and foliate to either side. Dimensional carved fruits, floral and scrolling continue down the entire length of each side; a superb display of artistic skill in the carvings, circa 1880. Beveled edges on the large mirror; original French maker’s tag on the back!!!
