Description: This antique needle case is made in the form of a Georgian knife box and was probably made in England prior to 1837. The side panels are covered in mother of pearl and edged with a dark shell material. The lid has a beautifully carved basket of flowers in relief that shimmer in the light. A small button catch in front of the box can be pressed to raise the lid. Inside is a circular hole for a thimble with three divided compartments behind for paper needle packets. The case measures 2.25" tall at the back and tapers to 2" in front. It is 1.50" wide and 1.50" deep. The case is in good original condition with the exception of a hairline crack running through the center of the bottom that causes the case to tilt slightly. This does not distract from the beauty of the case and is shown in my photos. It is a very old, the materials used in the making of these rare needle cases come from nature, so issues like this can sometimes appear with age.
