Description: For Your Consideration - Rare Antique Gilt Framed Print by German Artist Jacob Becker "DAS GEWITTER" circa 1870This solid wood gilt frame houses a rare black and white mixed engraving print "Das Gewitter" by Jacob Becker. His original painting of Das Gewitter recently sold at auction for over $200,000, an increase over a few years time of over $100,000. This print, done in 1870 Germany, features fieldworkers reacting to an impending storm off in the distance. The dramatic scene is captivating and the detail makes the emotions visceral. The print includes both the artist and printers names, along with the title itself, written in German below the print, which is matted and framed in the European style of the time. The printer is written as "in Stahlgeft.v. (double back C) Steifensand in Ddorf." - since I do not speak 1800's German, I am merely writing it as its written on the print, as best I can. Please see the names and the title as written since I photographed them up close. The only issue with the piece is the wrinkling in the matte. It appears in the photos as a shadow or stain but is simply a wrinkle, which is not in the print itself, but merely in the matte. The print is in excellent condition - stunningly so - as is the frame, with its solid wood and beautiful gilt edge, with double (H) backside and sturdy wire for hanging. This is truly more impressive in person but I tried to capture its essence with the pictures I posted. Because it measures 32" by 28" and is thick, heavy, and valuable, the shipping is expensive. I will have to double box this and due to the extreme care involved, cannot cut costs on this; however, I am willing to deliver within a reasonable distance of the Baltimore Maryland area (including parts of DC, MD, VA, NY, WV, PA) for a nominal fee, or you can pick up the art yourself at a prearranged date and time.
