Description: An amazing very old intricately wood carved Buddhist temple / altar sculpture or panel from South India. Depicts the Hindu goddess Ganga, symbolic of the river Ganges. She is standing on top of a Makara, a mythical hybrid sea dragon creature.which has the head of a crocodile, horns of a goat, the body of an antelope and a snake and the tail of a fish or peacock and the feet of a panther. Circa approximately 18th to 19th century, but could be as early as 17th century. It is large and measures: 24 1/2 in Tall12 1/2 in Wide3 in DeepWeighs 15 lbs Acquired at a Bel Air, Ca estate.
