Description: A 2024 survivor of hurricane Helene, this sconce was in our shop in Asheville's River Arts District that was hit by over 16 feet of water. Our shop was destroyed and we lost most of our lighting, but this sconce was hanging from a steel beam in the ceiling and wasn't damaged. It now has a modern history on top of it historic past. It is rare to find this lantern in its original, undamaged condition. This particular cast iron Gothic pendant is from Murlin Company Manufacturing of Philadelphia, PA, and is signed M with an underscore on the canopy and twice on the interior of the lantern. The lantern was removed from the Frick Mansion in Pittsburgh, PA, during a remodel and has been stored in an attic, which explains its lack of breaks. This lantern is all original with its textured opal glass, two-piece porcelain socket, canopy, and all parts including the screws, which were each removed and polished. The finish is also original and consistent with the light's age (see photos). The lantern was disassembled, cleaned, sealed to prevent rusting, and reassembled with new period correct cloth covered wiring. Has canopy hole for pull chain or switch; this is empty. We have TWO cast iron signed Murlin pendant lights. The second Murlin light is listed in our other items and is larger. Mounts with three screws or anchors (not included) through the canopy. Includes a ground wire.
