Description: Antique Hobbs Brockunier Dewdrop Cranberry Opalescent Hobnail Large Victorian Water Pitcher with Clear Reed Handle This stunning antique glass pitcher was patented on June 1, 1886, by Hobbs, Brockunier & Co, West Virginia in their No 323 Dew Drop pattern. This example is cranberry with white hobs and features a clear reeded glass applied handle. This full-size water pitcher stands 8-1/2” tall and measures approximately 8” across at the widest area, not including the handle. Thorough examination reveals no chips, cracks, or repairs. I see no residue or staining on the inside from use. No cracks or heat checks in the handle or surrounding area of attachment. The tip of one hob feels slightly rough at the end-very minor. We understand that these issues would sometimes occur in the early days at the time a piece was pulled from the mold. Two surrounding hobs appear to droop slightly and each has a tiny speck of dirt on them [refer to picture]. We believe this is more of a manufacturing flaw rather than damage, but it must be noted. A beautiful example of early day glassmaking.
