Description: Antique, Indian, Bronze & Silver Diwali Celebration Pot. Circa 1850 This is a beautiful celebration pot, steeped in Hindu tradition, depicting the Diwali deities, Ganesha and Lakshmi, and others, in various poses. The deities are displayed in relief, each in their own oval, silver beaded framed cartouche, There are ten depictions of the deities which are all produced of beautiful, Indian solid silver. The main body of the pot is of heavy bronze, with a globular body and large flared open top rim, foliate patterns adorn the body, with leaf motif around the neck and lower edge, metric flower petals decorate the circular base. Further silver beading is seen throughout the decorations and also to the outer rim edge of the top. Dawali is the Hindu festival of lights with its variations also celebrated in other Indian religions. It symbolises the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance". Diwali is celebrated during the Hindu lunisolar months of Ashvin (according to the amanta tradition) and Kartika—between around mid-September and mid-November. The celebrations generally last five or six days. Diwali is connected to various religious events, deities and personalities, such as being the day Rama returned to his kingdom in Ayodhya with his wife Sita and his brother Lakshmana after defeating the demon king Ravana. It is also widely associated with Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity and Ganesha, the god of wisdom and the remover of obstacles. Other regional traditions connect the holiday to Vishnu, Krishna, Durga, Shiva, Kali, Hanuman, Kubera, Yama, Yami, Dhanvantari, or Vishvakarman. Usually, only the bronze (only) version are seen, but this is a much rarer silver and bronze pot, making this a superb opportunity to aquire a truly scarce Diwali Celebration Pot.
