Description: Fabulous ebonised oak carved book trough for Bibles or hymnbooks, carved in the gothic style with a Bible verse "Whoso findeth wisdom findeth life" across the back. Carved ends with flowing design including fleurs de lis and a central carving - of "S" on one end and "1901" on the other. This is a wonderful labour of love, hand carved by someone over 120 years ago. Some damage to the 2 back corners which have been roughly repaired at some point. Base looks like it fitted over something and then was screwed down from beneath - there are a couple of screw holes underneath. Measures 46cm wide x 17cm deep x 23cm high. Internal shelf width is 44cm. Ref 7077
