Description: An important, museum quality Renaissance period architectural ring, set with a genuine polished diamond crystal - one of the finest stones in existence.This authentic and completely original ring dates from the Tudor Elizabethan period, the mid-16th century, and will have been made for Royalty or High Clergy in Northern Europe.Made of solid 22 carat gold, it has fabulously ornate and detailed scrolled shoulders holding its high raised tapering head, which is beaded and scallop-carved and has an incredible cushion-shaped back of head.It's set with a point-cut diamond - created by polishing the actual facets of the octahedral-shaped natural diamond crystal just as it grew deep in the earth. This created a stone of such fundamental perfection, it distils the essence of the diamond, combining nature's raw beauty with the skill and workmanship of a stone cutter 500 years in the past. The upper pyramid is visible, but deep within the stone its other half mirrors this, giving unique symmetric geometric shapes and flashes from deep within that play alongside those from the upper faces.Together with the magical feel of the ring itself, this gives a very strong sense of otherworldliness in every way - and you know you're in the presence of a piece whose methods of creation have long been lost to time.It weighs 5.2 grams, the head measures 7.7 x 6.7 mm and stands 10.0 mm high off the finger. It's a size 8+ and is not resizable due to its age.
