Antique VICTORIAN Sterling Silver Green Agate S. MORDAN & CO. Sliding TOOTHPICK

Description: A great antique combined sterling silver toothpick and green agate seal, signed by S. Mordant & Co., dating to circa 1880. Samson Mordant (1790-1843) was the inventor of the propelling pencil and made high end utilitarian sliding and propelling pieces for the Regency and Victorian markets. This super sterling silver novelty piece combines a sliding toothpick with an unengraved green agate seal at the other end, the body with nice fluting decoration along the entire length. The toothpick is marked 'S.Mordan & Co'. The toothpick measures approximately 2 inches long when closed. When opened it measures just under 3 inches long. The agate measures about 6.5mm across. The toothpick weighs approximately 3.5 grams. The toothpick is in general good condition with all over wear including a few pinprick dings along the slide opening and some wear to the tip of the pick. The agate is in great condition.
