Description: Beautiful, antique English writing box. This Victorian portable desk has abalone, bone and brass marquetry. Detailed design has a shield with cartouche on the center top, bordered with a linear bone and flower design. Beveled edge has bone, abalone and more brass designs. The wood looks to be a birds' eye maple. Inside has kind of a tiger stripe/zebra dark wood with 2 big compartments. Velveteen fabric is on one of the writing surfaces. There are 2 ink bottles (no lids) and what looks to be a straight edge out of the darker wood, as it's finished on all sides. This box has significant damage - the outside top has sections of the marquetry work missing, and some metal trim missing (which is included). Also a crack runs through the lid, bottom of the box, and the hinged writing surface. That being said - still a very pretty piece. It measures 13" wide x 8 3/4" deep x 5" high. No key.
