Antique Winged Car Mascot with an Early RAC Car Badge and RAF Cap Badge

Description: Here on offer is an impressive RAF related antique winged car mascot enhanced with an early RAC car badge and RAF brass cap badge. From what I can make out, it looks to have possibly been made up from a 1920’s Buick Master “winged” car mascot/radiator cap, that originally would have had a temperature heat gauge in the centre? Where the gauge would have been fitted, there is now an early (1900’s) example of a RAC car badge which has the royal crown on the top and at the base of the wheel is a winged Hermes, an Olympian deity in Greek mythology (also called Mercury in Roman mythology). On the front of the badge, it would have had an enamel Union Jack flag and on the back “The Royal Automobile Club” engraved around an image of King Edward II. This is now missing and has been replaced with a WW2 period RAF brass cap badge. Therefore, this piece seems to have been made up from a “marriage” of scarce motoring memorabilia, by someone who loved motoring, with a connection to the RAF, probably during WW2. It is great condition with now damage to the wings or badge that I can see. It has clearly been painted with a bright silver paint to enhance its appeal. It does make a very striking display piece! This car mascot now makes a very striking desk display piece for anybody interested in early motoring memorabilia or anybody who is or has served in the RAF. It measures 7.75” (19.7cm) tall and is 8” (20.4cm) wide, wing tip to wing tip. It weighs a heavy 1.1Kg. Please see my pictures for the details of the condition, which complement this description.
