Description: *I've been collecting Van Briggle pottery for over 50 years, & this is one of the first Van Briggle vases I'd found so long ago, & this is the first time I've ever offered it for sale. This is a large, stout Van Briggle dark mahogany vase, measuring 7.1/2"Tall x 9.3/4" at its Widest x 4.7/8" base; the top opening is 3.1/2"; the weight is a heavy 6.1/4 lbs. It is signed on its base with Van Briggle, Colorado Sprgs. & is circa 1920's. *As you can see in the Photos it is in Excellent condition, with only a minor surface rub: 1 handle is flawless (Photos #5 & #6); the other handle has only 2 small glaze pops & a very minor scratch at the handle's base (Photos #7 & 8), just to mention for accuracy. It has a Crisp Mold, & a nice Fat Hard to Find Shape. Spgs” in excellent overall condition, & it's over 100. years' old! *This is also a great Arts & Crafts period piece, dating to the 1920’s, which would be a large, major find in an art pottery collection, or as a stand-alone period piece! *Van Briggle pottery has been made continuously since 1901 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It was founded by Artus Van Briggle. Before moving to Colorado for health reasons in 1899, Van Briggle was a major decorator for Rookwood Pottery in Ohio, where he met his future wife, Anna Van Briggle, who decorated some pottery under her own name, and she continued the Van Briggle pottery for years after Artus' death, continuing his work, designs & color glazes.The Van Briggle Pottery Company built its success on soft, dull (matte) glazes. *Bid with confidence; read all my positive feedback as a Seller.
