Armando José Isabel García-Menocal was a Cuban painter active between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was the director of the Academy of Fine Arts in Havana and one of the first to incorporate the style of the turn of the century in island painting. He stood out for his portraits and landscapes with a luminosity and freshness not common in Cuban painting. In addition, he was an independence fighter and participated in the struggles for the independence of Cuba. He was a painter of stories, portraits, landscapes, seascapes, flowers, still lifes and also made decorations with mythological themes. His works can be seen at the National Museum of Fine Arts and in the Aula Magna of the University of Havana.
