Description: This wonderful wall pocket by Noritake Morimura is over the top art deco style with a Mughal Indian Princess reclining in a black peacock boat with a feather fan in one hand. A dark skinned man with an elaborate turban is poling the boat. Land and water are represented by jagged blue and green shapes, and there's a rising sun and a stylized black tree. The piece is 8 inches tall and 4 3/4 inches across at the top. The backstamp has the "M" in wreath mark "Hand Painted in Japan" for Morimura Brothers and some Japanese characters. Because it's "Japan" and not "Nippon", it was made after 1921. Production stopped in 1941 due to World War II, and marks changed after the war was over. The gilt rim in worn in a small spot after the second black branch of the tree and from the last tree limb to the edge. There's a tiny stray black spot between the princess and the boatman and 2 tiny white spots on the black boat. There are also 2 small gaps in the black lines around the sun. The piece was used, and some faint brown stains remain inside.
