Description: AntiqueARTHUR WARDLEFramed & Mounted Coloured PrintStudy ofENGLISH SETTERScirca 1910Arthur Wardle was born in 1864 and died in 1949:Wardle was a British Classicist Painter - an Animalier - Animal Painter renown for his Dog Portraits and one of the pre-eminent animal and sporting painters of his generation;Wardle became particularly skilled in depicting the precise detail of an animal's markings and fur, as well as fully mastering the art of conveying their movement;Wartdle exhibited more than 100 works of art at the Royal Academy and was the artist of choice for portraits and depictions of dogs around the turn of the 20th CenturyThis print was bought along with another (a study of English Foxhounds) in the late 1960's and has been in our family home since:The print is in the same frame that it was in when bought and has a mount, glass and backing paper which we believe to be original as it hasnt' been replaced while in our ownership and was advised as being original when purchased;The frame is an early black plastic bakelite-style and has a glass insert to protect the print. The frame has some wear to the left hand edge which has been sympathetically repaired - please see photos for detailWe are unsure of the exact age of the print, however believe it to date early C20th circa 1910-1920From a very clean, dry, pet & smoke free homeI have another print of English Foxhounds, which was bought at the same time, listed.
