Description: ORIGINAL 17th CENTURY ETCHING attributed to Dutch master ROMEYN DE HOOGHE (1645-1708) "A VIEW OF THE TEMPLE OF THE SIBYL, TIVOLI" Lovely, very busy composition, with lots of figures including many ladies in drapery, both in the foreground and in the distance. 17th century views of this location are very scarce, though there were many later in the 18th century by Piranesi, etc. Illustration to page 174 of Servatius Gallaeus' volume "Dissertationes de sybillis..." Amsterdam, H & V Boom, 1688. [See my photo of the title page] Unsigned - but Romeyn De Hooghe was the dedicated engraver for this volume; the style is very much his - and the obvious quality shows that it is the work of a master. Attribution is 99.999% certain! Size is a 18 x 12.4 centimetres (platemark area) CONDITION. Very good. A nice clear impression, amazing detail, nicely age-toned, evenly inked and with good tonal contrast. Printed on fairly thin "laid" chainlined paper. AN EXTREMELY SCARCE ITEM. **MARKETWATCH** I've nothing to say, as nobody else has it!! ***ALL MY ITEMS ARE SENT - UK & WORLDWIDE - BY TRACKED ROYAL MAIL SERVICE, FOR EVERYONE'S PEACE OF MIND. *** I COMBINE ITEMS FOR SHIPPING ***
