These hats are authentic and were brought to the States by a family member whose native home is in the Sierra Madre Mountains - Occidental. They had a small family traditional Mexican restaurant in Ashtabula, Ohio along Lake Erie near Geneva on the Lake. According to the estate, these hats were for use during Mexican Holiday celebrations and large traditional events. These hats are new and have never been worn.
