Description: PLEASE READ: This is a TRUE and AUTHENTIC clone of a confirmed museum lobotomy orbitoclast! After months of hard word and searching, I finally managed to get my hands on an authentic orbitoclast lobotomy pick for the purpose of offering clones exclusively in my shop. Originals that were used are EXCEPTIONALLY rare. I know one one confirmed set in private hands outside of a museum setting, and that individual has turned down a 5-figure offer. They’re simply not out there. These authentic clones are as close as you will likely ever get to the real thing. All other sets offered online are fantasy pieces, much larger and duller than the original. They are great for props and collectors, but if you’re looking for a true set that mimic the originals EXACTLY, you won’t find them anywhere else. You will receive the set as shown - one lobotomy orbitoclast and one surgical mallet. Also available in a beautiful glass shadowbox display! There are several types/styles of the lobotomy orbitoclast, but none so easily recognizable as the “Freeman Transorbital Leuctome”. Dr. Freeman was not a trained surgeon. He had no actual surgical background or formal training of the brain. He did not wear gloves or a mask, and didn’t bother sterilizing instruments. This did not stop him from taking literal icepicks and inserting them into a patient’s brain frontal lobes and violently stirring the icepick to disconnect the tissues and sever neuronal connections. This would often not work the first try, so he believed in doing it over and over again until he got it right. Many patients underwent repeated lobotomy procedures until the desired results were achieved. There are many documented example of the procedure going south as the icepic would break, leaving the metal pick lodged in the patients brain. He didn’t like that very much so he commissioned a friend, Henry A. Ator, to manufacture a more reliable instrument. This is that instrument. A lobotomy is a form of psychosurgery, a neurosurgical treatment of a mental disorder that involves severing connections in the brain’s prefrontal cortex. It was used for psychiatric and occasionally other conditions as a mainstream procedure in some Western countries for more than two decades, despite general recognition of frequent and serious side effects. While some people experienced symptomatic improvement with the operation, the improvements were achieved at the cost of creating other impairments. The procedure was controversial from its initial use in part due to the balance between benefits and risks. Today, lobotomy has become a disparaged procedure, a byword for medical barbarism and an exemplary instance of the medical trampling of patients’ rights.
