Description: This is an incredible Bacchus (deity of wine and merriment) mask. It is made of terracotta. This is certainly one of the most fun and detailed masks of this kind I've seen. Also, it has such wonderful colorful glazing! It is heavy at 4 Lbs and 12 Oz, and measures 12" by 9". It does have small areas throughout the entire piece where the terracotta shows from under the glaze. I think this is common with these pieces. This piece was found at an estate sale, and the history of where it was purchased has been lost. It is not signed, but appears to be in the style of Prof. Eugenio Pattarino, who studied art in Italy and Germany in the mid century. I included a piece of Pattarino's work in the last photo for comparison. This is a TRULY a wonderful piece of art, no matter who created it and would be fantastic for display. 😊What an amazing find and good price. Thanks for looking.
