Early engines burned from 40 to 200 pounds of coal per mile, depending on the quality of the coal and on the engineer. This watch does have some stains in the case and has a “storage unit” smell as it was found in my relatives storage unit. It was new and never worn. This watch has an automatic movement and does not require a battery. I did wind it up and the second hand does work. The manual and card are still wrapped in the factory plastic.
