Fist edition, first printing of this scarce Cooney title, winner of the Caldecott Prize for 1958. Book is VG with light foxing internally, otherwise clean and free of names, inscription, bookplates, etc., in a VG jacket which is noticeably foxed on both panels (see photos), but with price of $3.00 intact and now in protective mylar jacket. Despite the flaws this is still a presentable copy which has been SIGNED by Cooney the year of publication, with a small drawing of Chanticleer by Cooney on the title page. Very scarce signed.
