This beast of a knife is the civilian version of a Knives by Use///Fighting///Bark River Knives; Knife that was requested by and designed for a U.S. Marine Corp Force Recon Unit. The use of a knife as a weapon had really been mostly phased out for all U.S. Armed Forces but the face and nature of warfare in the last 10 yers has changed. With encounters becoming face to face, it has been time for some new strategy and some new training of Elite Units. There is now a need for a knife that is compact while still having enough blade and being stout enough to serve the intended purpose. Note that the handle slabs are Contoured and the Palm Swell is more forward than on a Bushcraft Knife or a Hunting Knife. All three of the last fingers of the hand curl behind the Swell and into a recessed contour of the slabs when holding the knife in Turse with Blade forward. When held in Blade Reverse Grip the Palm Swell is perfectly centered in the Palm. The underside of the knife's handle is "Self Righting" in the hand no matter how you pick it up. The Butt of the knife is Rounded but protrudes just enough to be used as a Yawara in toe to toe encounters to gain that split second advantage. As You can see this knife was not casually designed and will serve our Brothers and Sisters in Arms well.Even though the style is for fighting, the overall design lends itself well for a variety of outdoor tasks. It is built like a tank and will handle the toughest of tasks.A very nice feature about this knife is the supurb balance which causes it not to feel as heavy in the hand as the actual weight would indicate.The Standard Sheath for the S-T-S - 5 is Kydex. The Kydex sheath is supplied with a belt hanger. The Rivets in the sheath are also set for the Tec-Lok and for installing Molle Clips. All of the handle slabs on the S-T-S - 5 knives are 100% interchangeable knife-to-knife. Each Set is CNC Machined on Both sides to fit the Blades and be Held with the Screw Sets. Each S-T-S - 5 is supplied with a set of handles. The knives are NOT available without handle sets and come from the Factory with the handle set installed. All Standard Handle Sets are Matte Finished. The specs on this model is that it is supposed to be a .27" thick but I measured this one and it comes out to a .28" thick so this one is thicker than the normal ones. An additional Brown Leather Bark River Sheath - STS 5 Brown Right was purchased for an additional $59.95 and will be included. This is pre-owned and comes with box.
