Description: This is an amazing set! I've used comedy scissors in my Abbott's Short-Long Comedy Rope Routine for over 30 years. It always gets a great response. Once I realized several years ago these were discontinued, I bought some up out of fear I'd be without them some day. But now I have too many! I don't need three back up sets! So I'm selling two. I have my active set I've used for 40 years and a backup, which I haven't had to use (with one exception, explained below). So I"m selling two sets, each with their own very elegant wooden storage case. Below I've described the four types of comedy scissors. I only use three comedy scissors in my show. I think four is dragging things out a bit. I have a fifth pair, not part of this set, which is Warren Stephens' Pop Apart Scissors which I hand the spectator first. Then I follow up with two of the below (which I change up a bit for variety for me!). Of course, you can just use one or two if you want, and you may find using all four works well, I've just never tried it. These were sold individually for years, but all four have been discontinued. Here are the descriptions: Blocked Blades ScissorsI usually start my three comedy scissors routine with the Pop Apart scissors (not included) or this one. Or I often do this one second. After acting surprised the others popped apart, I hand them this. You do the "oblivious magician" thing while you look at the audience and talk, the audience sees the spectator opening and closing the handles just fine, but the blades don't separate! (For these scissors, the blades are permanently closed, so you just casually hand them to the spectator without first demonstrating that they work, because they don't!). Falling Blade ScissorsI work this one in once in a while to great effect. After seeing a problem with the Blocked Blades Scissors, you then grab another pair and you show how they open and close just fine. These work fine, you announce, demonstrating that to be the case. You can even cut a piece of paper if you'd like. I never do. But these do cut paper. Then secretly as you hand them to the spectator, you slide the gimmicked blade out a half inch (but stays connected - it can't come out), so when they go to open them, they open fine, but when they go to close them, the one blade stays drooped, like in the photo of the fourth set. Blades Away ScissorsYou grab this pair and show how they open and close just fine (again, you can cut paper with these). As you hand them to the spectator, handles first, you secretly disconnect the blades and palm them away while addressing the audience. The person is stranded with handles and no blades! Cut-No-Cut ScissorsRegardless of which three I use, this is always the last of the three. You hand the spectator some scissors but they can't open them. You take them back and you open them just fine. The spectator tries again, but to no avail. Then you say you'll open them and all they have to do is close them to cut the rope (or paper, or whatever trick you are doing). But now they won't close! This always gets a great reaction. This is the only set of comedy scissors I've had to replace. After using it for over 20 years, they were permanently stuck closed so I got another set, which I've been using for the last 10 years or so. But that has nothing to do with THIS set as I've never used this set and the whole set looks unused. I tried these out and they work fine. But I'm just letting you know my experience. Luckily, others make Cut-No-Cut Scissors, even if they don't look like this one. One last comment. If you've never used these before, at first you might panic because you can't consistently get them to work. But with a little practice, you will be able to reliably get them to work. I've done so for over 30 years! I have also listed another set of these. It differs in a few ways and is more expensive. The red holder they are in is nicer in that other set. The scissors in that set are slightly shinier.. The set in this listing comes with photocopied instructions because I got this used and it did not come with the instructions. Finally, this set has some rust on it, that would not be noticeable in performance, but you can see if you zoom in on the photos. Earlier today I googled how to clean scissors with rust on them, and there are some surefire ways to do that. But I'll leave that fun to you. And I'm not even convinced you'd need to because as mentioned, it won't be noticed in performance or affect the performance. Were I to keep these, I'd use them as-is. This comes complete with all four sets of scissors, the wooden storage case, and photocopied instructions. These are very hard to find. Someone on eBay is listing a new set for $788 or best offer. I don't think they will get that price, but these are very hard to find.
