Beautiful polished brass 1960 Olds Tri-Color Special trumpet in great condition!

Description: 1960 Olds Special Tri-Color trumpet. Stunning horn in terrific condition. SN 340XXX The Special model was considered an intermediate level horn in the Olds line up. However, I have owned many Specials over the years, and they were all terrific players! Specials are lightweight, free blowing, and responsive and this one is no exception. This horn was purchased particularly because of the exceptional valve and valve block condition although the lacquer was in poor condition. I removed the crusty old lacquer and polished it to a very high sheen so that it really pops! I polish my raw brass horns occasionally to maintain the polished sheen. But you can let it go and the patina will naturally take over if that is your preference. Olds did a lot of experimenting with different metals over the years. The tri-color Special has a yellow brass lead pipe, main tuning slide, valve block, bracing, etc., nickel silver slides and a nickel silver bell, along with a red brass bell tip. The tri-color Special makes for a beautiful horn and a complex tonal combination. The sound is not nearly as bright and focused as what one might expect from a silver nickel bell. The red brass tip diffuses the brilliance of the nickel silver and adds a richer and more complex tonal spectrum. Valve action is very good. The valves and valve casings are in exceptional condition! Excellent compression. The valves slides all still pop crisply when removed. The first valve slide even rebounds after being pulled! All slides operate smoothly. There are a few small imperfections in the bell. There is a scratch near the end of the bell, and evidence of dent repair near the valve block. See photos. This is not a perfect horn but it's a very nice horn and comes ready to play! Time to let some else enjoy this awesome horn!
