Description: This is a fully polished piece of Burmite (Burmese) amber that contains a beetle with large mandibles (jaws) along with an odd tube formation of unknown origin from the Cretaceous Period. The amber itself has a deep red color when light is shining on it.This insect was once alive when dinosaurs including T-Rex and Triceratops still walked the Earth! Please mouse over or click on images to see a larger view.The piece itself weighs 1.2 grams with approximate dimensions of 2.2 cm length by 1.2 cm width and 0.4 cm height. NOTE: 2.54 cm is 1 inch. This piece is genuine amber formed over millions of years of polymerization. Burmite (Burmese) amber is difficult to acquire and has been dated to be Cretaceous in age (around 100 million years old) and would have been sticky resin during the time of the dinosaurs and is being mined in the Hukawng Valley in Myanmar (Burma).
