Bishop Powell & Stonier Melissa Blue Floral Round Covered Serving Bowl c.1878-91

Description: Bishop Powell & Stonier (PB&S) Antique Melissa Blue Gold Floral Round Covered Serving Bowl c.1878 - 1891, VERY RARE. What a spectacular piece from PB&S (sometimes known as Powell & Bishop or Bishop & Stonier depending on age). Note: there are other matching serving pieces in my store. Round covered serving bowl dish in weighty and well-made porcelain. The top has a swirl pattern with a scalloped edge. Decorated with a Chinoiserie-style blue floral pattern with rich gold metallic trim and accents throughout. Handles and knob are all metallic gold. This appears to be hand painted especially the gold trim parts. Note this is hand-wash only and is not suitable for microwave nor oven. Not much is known about this pattern but a piece can be found in a London museum. The company itself was a pioneer in design in the mid-to-late 1800s and their china was one of the brands found on the Titanic. This is indeed rare and to be treasured. 11" From handle to handle and about 6" tall from knob to base. Condition: For a piece that is about 150 years old, this is in remarkable condition with wear consistent to age. There is some gold loss especially to handles, one tiny chip on the inside rim of lid, discoloration to inside of bowl and minor crazing and wear to base.
