All tapes are sold strictly as collector’s/ display items with NO guarantee concerning their operating condition -- unless picked up in person. 8-track tapes were never intended to travel through the mail and rough handling can, on rare occasions, result in the tape un-spooling-- something over which I have no control. Unspooling is the reason a tape might go “Whump… Whump… Whump” rather than tracking smoothly—as God intended. As this is a notoriously unreliable format, performance and sound quality of 8-track tapes is hit or miss. The observation that a given tape played fine on my Realistic TR-169 is not a guarantee that it will perform similarly on your machine. Generally, they are not splice-tested, and occasionally one might separate at the sensing foil. An easy fix with some scissors and Scotch Tape—just like it was 1974 all over again… For these reasons, 8-track tapes are sold “As-Is” and returns are not accepted. But in the event of a problem I’ll be happy to provide contact information for my 8-track guy who, for about $3, will rebuild it with new pads, splice, and sensing foil. BX46
