Description: A Copious and Critical Latin-English Lexicon Founded On The Larger Latin-German Lexicon Of Dr. William Freund By E.A. Andrews L.L.D. Published Harper & Brothers, Publishers, New York, 1855. Hardcover in original leather binding. Virtually all of the leather spine cover is lacking (see pics) and front board is literally attached by a thread. This book was owned by Dr. Benjamin Alexander Cheek, and was signed on the front endpaper by him, dated October 14th, 1855 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where he was then a student at the university. Cheek would later go on to become a medical doctor and surgeon, serving the Confederate Army in the Civil War in the 22nd NC Infantry. His full service record is highlighted below.
